true story, bro.
On my way home from school earlier this evening, I stopped by Quick Chek to withdraw some money from the atm machine. Unbeknownst, some lady approached me and asked if I could drop her down the street to the nearest gas station, literally 500 feet away. She made some excuses like “her car broke down, her ankle was ‘broken,’ and that her aunt lived ‘around the corner’ from the gas station. I almost fell for her sob-story and actually considered taking her, in pity. At the time, all I could think about was avoiding a fatal encounter with some possibly deranged serial killer. I wanted to be a good Samaritan and help a fellow person in need, but my skepticism saved me from making that grave mistake. I wonder what other people would do if life presented a similar scenario. Thankfully, my parents raised me to not associate with strangers.
This lady walked away with no limp so she must have been a compulsive liar, interested in hitching a free ride somewhere other than the gas station. Desperate people these days…
